“Kitchen Sink” Smoothie

30 Mar

How do you clean out your fruit and veggie drawers?  You make a “Kitchen Sink” Smoothie!

Kitchen Sink Smoothie

My restrictions:  No milk.  No peanut butter.  Only half a cup of usable spinach.  The rest was, um, slimy.  I hate when that happens to my spinach.

So I dug around in our drawers and freezer, and pulled out foods I enjoy on their own.  Banana, strawberries, orange, yogurt!  Yes!  Oatmeal?  Sure!  More is better, was my philosophy that fine morning.

And indeed it was.

Wonderful Blenderful

You can search the comparative riches of your own refrigerator and freezer and pantry to create your own Kitchen Sink Smoothie.  Happy Blending!

Kitchen Sink Smoothie
Makes 1 large serving

1 medium banana, sliced and frozen
1 medium navel orange, most of peel and pith removed (leave some for added flavor and vitamins – trust me on this!)
1/2 cup diced, frozen strawberries
1/2 cup fresh spinach
1/4 cup quick oats, uncooked
1/2 cup nonfat vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup cold green tea

Put all ingredients in blender and blend, blend, blend, until mostly smooth.  You’ll see little red and taupe and orange bits, but mostly a thick sea of green.  You’ve hit perfection.  Pour into a large glass and savor slowly.
